VIDEO ACCESSIBILITY

One video. Four practical accessibility files.

Captions make speech and meaningful sound available as text. Audio description makes important visual information available through narration. VoxDescribe produces both without treating them as the same job.

  • Audio description for visual information
  • Captions for speech and meaningful sound
  • Separate human-edit panels
  • Files for video, audio, and web players

Captions and audio description cover different gaps

CAPTIONS

What is said and heard

Dialogue, speaker changes, and meaningful non-speech audio such as music or a ringing phone.

AUDIO DESCRIPTION

What is shown but not said

Actions, identities, settings, visual changes, and intentional on-screen writing needed to understand the video.

A transcript alone does not describe a visual demonstration. Audio description alone does not give a deaf viewer the spoken dialogue. Accessible video production often needs both.

A workflow shaped for prerecorded video

  1. Start with the original video and its actual soundtrack.
  2. Create captions on the source timeline.
  3. Identify visual information not already communicated by speech.
  4. Fit descriptions into genuine music or silence, or pause the video when essential information needs more time.
  5. Review both tracks and publish the formats your player supports.

Where WCAG fits

WCAG 2.2 includes separate success criteria for prerecorded captions and audio description. The right implementation depends on the content, the conformance target, and the publishing player. The W3C overview of visual description explains why key visual information needs an audio alternative.

VoxDescribe helps produce and review media files. A generated file does not by itself certify the video, website, player, or organization as compliant. Test the finished experience with the controls and platform your audience will use.

Keep the original meaning intact

Good description adds missing information rather than narrating every frame. It should not repeat a speaker, guess at facts, or crowd dialogue with low-value observations. Visible names and purposeful text deserve special care because they may carry information the soundtrack never states.
